Pillar High School Opens the Mary A. Murray Garden and Bob Murray Life Skills Room

The Mary A. Murray Garden

Pillar High School has recently opened the Mary A. Murray Garden to provide an accessible outdoor space for our students to work in. The Mary A. Murray Garden features raised planting beds, a ramp, and pathways that are wide enough to be accessible by wheelchairs and walkers. The wide range of tasks available in a garden allows it to have multiple uses by our students. The herbs grown provide sensory input stimulation for students’ sense of smell. Jobs such as watering the plants or harvesting ripe vegetables provide good occupational therapy training as well as teaching our students about tending to responsibilities.

The Bob Murray Life Skills Room

Pillar High School also recently opened the Bob Murray Life Skills Room. The new life skills room provides a variety of therapuetic-benefits for our students in a natural environment. The room provides a variety of therapuetic benefits for our students in a natural environment. The room features common bedroom furniture as well as accessible technology for our students to practice skills such as bed transfers and self care.
